Trenches are long narrow ditches dug into the ground where soldiers lived day and night. There were many German trenches on one side and many lines of allied trenches on the other. In the middle was no-mans land because it didn't belong to either army. Soldiers crossed no-mans land to attack the enemy.
I remember slowly marching down the road in a sea of people. Once we marched to the the memorial we sat in silence, listening to speeches from the mayor and soldiers from WW2. I was glad to be at the service to remember the 100 year anniversary of World War One. |
