The Best Ride Ever!
By George Seque I don’t do much mountain biking I’m more of a road bike sort of person. But at Mount Hutt Retreat on the first day after lunch, I started off fitting myself onto a mountain bike to make it as comfortable as it could be. There are little levers to adjust the seat so I moved it to my height until it was just right. After we finished that we practised biking down the hill. It was pretty easy; it was good grass so it wasn’t slippery. We practised going back up the hill by going to a lower gear. I got up and down the hill quite easily because I had experience of riding a bike. Some of the others had to walk up, but Logan, Ollie and I managed to ride up. I kinda crashed! I was riding down the hill and it was quite a narrow track and I went around a corner and I saw my friend Ryan, put on the brakes and tried to swerve around him. I hit the prickle bush, rolled in the gravel and then hit another gorse bush! Yea, It hurt, but I didn’t have time to feel it as I wanted to get out of the way before another person came along. I hopped on my bike and pedalled off. Next up was …a very steep hill, the steepest hill there! Ollie went first and the others followed. Unfortunately Monique fell off. I could hear the bike skidding and heard her scream. The bike flew up but luckily she was okay. I actually ran down the hill to check she was okay so I didn’t get to bike the steep bit. I wasn’t too upset as Monique was laughing and we ended up just laughing together. As we came into the last bit of the ride there was a group of staircases. I only had a couple of seconds to react and went down the steps with; my feet off the pedals, my whole body going up and down, holding on with just my hands! I survived but my bum was broken! Mountain biking was a good experience and I hope I can go back there and ride again. It was as fun as! |
